(Los Angeles, CA) - DataOptek CEO Roderick J. Byrd announced a major restructuring of the Los Angeles based telecommunications network installation company today. According to Byrd, customer demand for broadband access, new and upgraded data and voice services, and network-enabled security systems create tremendous growth potential for companies such as DataOptek. “The company’s reorganization positions us to benefit from the increasing business opportunities coming our way as the demands on our country’s communications infrastructure grow,” Byrd said.

The first major component of Byrd’s plan is the creation of the company’s first Board of Directors. The new Board comprises a team of accomplished and award-winning individuals. Each brings talent and experience to the company that complement Byrd’s industry expertise and established reputation. “All of the board members bring a proven track record of excellence in their respective specialties,” Byrd said. “Our shared vision is to work together to rapidly grow the company to become a leader in the network systems installation industry.”

The members of the new board are:

Roderick J. Byrd, President and CEO, whose career in the network installation industry spans 20 years. Byrd founded DataOptek Corporation in 1999 with one customer. Since then, the company’s client list has grown to include scores of public and private entities, including the U.S. Navy and Air Force, Concert Technologies, and Fox Studios. Byrd will lead DataOptek’s field and service operations, providing project planning, oversight, and review. He ensures quality service, expert advice, responsiveness, and the timely completion of every project.

Anthony Q. Drake, Executive Vice President and COO, brings over 25 years of experience in operations and financial management and planning to DataOptek. He has started and grown as many as six successful businesses. These include Unison Consulting, co-founded in 1989 with Judith Byrd, a firm that is a recognized leader in the airport consulting industry. Drake will oversee all of the company’s service areas, along with CEO Rick Byrd. Drake will focus on company operations and strategic planning.

Judith Byrd-Blaylock, Vice President, Business Development, co-founded Unison Consulting Group with Tony Drake, directing its national retail development practice. She achieved considerable recognition as a businesswoman whose entrepreneurial spirit and determination redefined services specifically tailored to the traveling public. Judith has more than 20 years experience in international and large airport retail development. She has specific expertise in infrastructure requirements analysis; financial and economic analysis; negotiations; and market analysis. Judith will direct DataOptek’s marketing division.

Janell Byrd-Chichester, Vice President, has had a distinguished legal career as a litigator and law professor. After graduating from U.C. Berkeley’s School of Law in 1983, Janell clerked on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She then practiced securities litigation at the law firm Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, D.C.; managed the Washington, D.C. office of the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund; and held endowed chairs at the Florida State University College of Law and at the University of North Carolina Central School of Law. Byrd-Chichester will oversee government relations.

Shonte M. Byrd, M.D., Director, is a practicing Neurologist in Houston, Texas, a member of the American Academy of Neurology, Harris County Medical Society, and American Medical Association. Shonte’s management duties cover DataOptek’s expansion into specialized markets such as the healthcare industry.
